I attained my Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from the National University of Natural Medicine through a four-year program comprised of both Clinical Sciences and Holistic methods of healing and disease prevention. In addition to the required curriculum, I continued to explore the connection between physical health and our energetic, emotional, and spiritual experiences. I completed training in the Herscu Method of Homeopathy, Biotheraputic Drainage, Applied Kinesiology, and hands on energy healing techniques such as Chakra Balancing and Intuitive Counseling.
While in medical school, I conducted extensive research with the Helfgot Research Institute in the field of Psychoneuroimmunology studying the interrelationships between the modalities of Ayurvedic Medicine, Classical Chinese Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Modern Psychology and Western Medicine focusing on how each system of medicine defines and heals the relationships between personality and health.

What is a Naturopathic Physician?
Think of a Naturopathic Physician as a conductor of a symphony. Your body is the symphony and all the parts must work together to make beautiful music. You may have specific doctors for your feet, or your throat, or your lungs. These doctors tune up those instruments of your body, but a Naturopathic Physician sees the big picture and the symphony as a whole. Dr. Marshall can be your conductor, whether than means working with all your specific specialists to create the best plan for your body, or working just with you to get in touch with what your body is telling you.
Technically, Naturopathic Physicians combine the wisdom of nature with the rigors of modern science. Steeped in traditional healing methods, principles and practices, naturopathic medicine focuses on holistic, proactive prevention and comprehensive diagnosis and treatment. By using protocols that minimize the risk of harm, Naturopathic Physicians help facilitate the body’s inherent ability to restore and maintain optimal health. It is the Naturopathic Physician’s role to identify and remove barriers to good health by helping to create a healing internal and external environment.
Qualified Naturopathic Physicians undergo rigorous training before they become licensed healthcare practitioners. A licensed Naturopathic Physician (N.D.) attends a four-year graduate-level naturopathic medical school and is educated in all of the same basic sciences as an M.D., but also studies holistic and nontoxic approaches to therapy with a strong emphasis on disease prevention and optimizing wellness. In addition to a standard medical curriculum, the Naturopathic Physician is required to complete four years of training in clinical nutrition, acupuncture, homeopathic medicine, botanical medicine, psychology, and counseling (to encourage people to make lifestyle changes in support of their personal health). A Naturopathic Physician takes rigorous professional board exams so that he or she may be licensed by a state or jurisdiction as a Primary Care General Practice Physician.
Additional information on naturopathic schools can be found on the American Association of Naturopathic Medical Colleges website.
