ER physician to Addiction Medicine: Healing HIV & Shame with Psychedelic Medicine with Keith Loring, MD
One of the things I love most about HEAL is sharing people's stories of healing and overcoming complex challenges. In this episode, I speak with a dear friend, medical doctor, and fellow plant medicine journeyer who has spent decades healing his own addiction, shame, and living with HIV. This episode flows differently; when Keith began his story, it was so pure and complete I didn't want to interrupt. He shares an intimate journey from feeling trapped in a medical system that hindered his health to becoming an addiction therapist himself.

Meet Dr. Keith Loring
Keith Loring is a physician with an extensive background in emergency medicine whose personal experiences with HIV and addiction eventually led him to switch to the practice of addiction medicine at HealthRight360, a safety net clinic in the heart of San Francisco. He recognizes that western allopathic medicine is limited at best and sometimes detrimental in it's ability to enhance long term health and wellbeing of human beings, especially when its practice is trauma uninformed. His search for complimentary approaches led him to Compassionate Inquiry as his core approach to engaging with patients and clients.
Alongside his formal engagement in addiction medicine, he is engaged with the LGBTQ community, people struggling with HIV and addiction. He also supports those who seek integration of their experiences with plant medicines.
